My Favorite Dance Tradition

Bharatha Dance Tradition


I really love Bharata dance tradition, which is one of the oldest dance traditions of South India. I really love to learn and dance Bharata dance. I have danced Bharata dance only once. It was in a program organized by CIDFA in Kandy, which featured artists from India. Since I love Bharata dance, I went to Kandy, Polonnaruwa and stayed at a friend's house to participate in the program. 

My biggest desire is to study Bharata thoroughly once I come to campus. If I think about it, I will do Bharata as my main subject. I really want to go to India, study Bharata, go to the Kerala Kala Mandala in India. The costumes of Bharata dance tradition are very beautiful. I would like to learn the history of Bharata dance, learn Tamil, wear Bharata clothes and dance in an Arangetram show wearing Gunguru.

 But I don't know if I will be able to fulfill that dream. If I can't do it on campus, I will go to a Bharata class in Colombo and learn Bharata as a hobby. Right now I don't know anything about Bharata dance. But someday I will learn. That is my dream. I will do my best.
